    POSITION: Chorus Teacher

    LOCATION: Westover High School

    JOB SUMMARY:
    The Dougherty County School System seeks a dynamic, student-centered Chorus Teacher for Westover High School. The ideal candidate is passionate about music education and committed to fostering creativity, performance excellence, and student growth through engaging choral instruction. The Chorus Teacher will create a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes academic achievement, musical development, collaboration, and lifelong appreciation for the arts.

    The teacher will design and deliver standards-based instruction while supporting the social, emotional, and academic growth of all learners.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    1. Bachelor\"s degree from an accredited college or university in Music Education, Choral Music, or a related field;
    2. Valid Georgia Professional Teaching Certificate in Music Education (P12) or Charter Waiver eligible;
    3. Demonstrated knowledge of vocal pedagogy, music theory, choral performance techniques, and high school nstruction;
    4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

    SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    1. Strong understanding of high school choral instruction and adolescent vocal development;
    2. Ability to create engaging, rigorous, and differentiated instructional experiences for diverse learners;
    3. Strong classroom management and student engagement skills;
    4. Excellent oral, written, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills;
    5. Ability to integrate instructional technology and digital music resources into daily instruction;
    6. Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community stakeholders;
    7. Knowledge of assessment practices and data-driven instructional strategies;
    8. Ability to collaborate effectively within professional learning communities and school teams;
    9. Ability to supervise and support students during performances, rehearsals, and school-related activities;
    10. Ability to perform routine physical activities associated with classroom and performance responsibilities.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Develop and implement engaging, standards-aligned chorus instruction that supports student achievement and musical growth;
    2. Prepare students for choral performances, concerts, school programs, and community events;
    3. Foster a safe, inclusive, and positive classroom culture that promotes student confidence, creativity, and collaboration;
    4. Differentiate instruction to meet the academic, behavioral, and developmental needs of all students;
    5. Utilize formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and inform instructional decisions;
    6. Maintain organized lesson plans, instructional materials, and accurate student records in accordance with district expectations;
    7. Integrate technology and innovative instructional practices into music instruction;
    8. Establish and maintain effective classroom management procedures conducive to learning;
    9. Communicate regularly and professionally with students, parents, and school personnel regarding student progress and performance expectations;
    10. Collaborate with administrators, counselors, teachers, and support staff to enhance student success;
    11. Participate in faculty meetings, professional learning opportunities, school events, and district initiatives;
    12. Supervise students during assigned duties, rehearsals, performances, and extracurricular activities;
    13. Demonstrate professionalism, ethical conduct, and adherence to district policies and procedures;
    14. Maintain satisfactory performance evaluations in accordance with district expectations;
    15. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or designee.



    REPORTS TO: Principal

    SALARY RANGE: Ten-Month Contract - Competitive salary and excellent benefits package in accordance with the DCSS Compensation Guide.
