WSP is currently initiating a search for a motivated Lead Civil Engineer – Roadway/Drainage Design for our Georgia Transportation team!

This position sits out of our Atlanta, GA office.

This Opportunity

The WSP Atlanta office serves clients from around the state on a wide variety of projects ranging from turn lanes and widening, intersection improvements and bridge replacements to urban interchange reconstructions and large design-build projects. The selected candidate will work with GDOT and on GDOT projects on a regular basis, strong existing relationships and experience with GDOT are beneficial. This position is an excellent opportunity to continue to enhance design and production skills and build relationships within WSP as well as with a large number of clients around the state.

This candidate should have experience in leading design of highway, roadway geometric design, roadway plan production, drainage design, 2D Hydraulics and Hydrology modeling, MS4 reports, erosion control, and/or traditional delivery and alternative delivery projects. This position may function as the lead engineer for GDOT projects and other local agency / municipal clients. Responsibilities may also include project management, contributing on pursuits, maintaining client relationships, design and QA/QC. This role will be a key contributor in assisting in managing daily activities of our Civil/Highway group.

Your Impact

  • Assist in leading and continue developing the Civil/Highway design team.
  • Providing guidance and mentoring of staff and direct work assignments.
  • Collaborating with leadership to determine long-range plans and objectives, including recommendations on project staffing.
  • Lead project tasks for conceptual and preliminary engineering and final design activities, as well as development of construction plans, calculations and specifications.
  • Coordinate with other design disciplines such as structures, hydraulics, traffic, and utilities, etc.
  • Participate hands-on in the preparation of Plans, Specifications and Estimates (PS&E).
  • Review, monitor and/or develop complex layouts, sketches, plans, specifications and estimates standards and guidelines, correspondence, and/or prepare reports.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.
  • 7 years of experience in large transportation and infrastructure projects.
  • Professional Engineering License in GA or ability to obtain in six months.
  • GSWCC Level II Certification or ability to obtain in six months.
  • Significant experience leading design teams on GDOT and municipal projects (highway, roadway geometric design, roadway plan production, an drainage design).
  • Developing skills in project and staff management experience on civil transportation projects.
  • Experience with daily mentoring of junior staff.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience on Alternative Delivery projects.
  • Experience with large transportation design build projects.
  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering or relevant field.
